Pixel Farm

During my time at the Art Institutes, I was able to use my writing skills as a Marketing Assistant at Pixel Farm. My first big assignment came as their work with PMH was about to hit the air. The new international branding spot for Mattel’s Barbie was a labor of love for the special effects wizards involved, and our job was to transmit the excitement to the post-production world. With placements in Post Magazine, Agency Spy, and the Minneapolis Egotist, we were able to spread the magic.

MetaRent

Yes, MetaRent.com is a figment of my imagination. However, after several moves in the past few years, the prospect of a website that would gather all active apartment listings into one place is just too good of an idea not to spread around. Let’s say that you want to bring this website to the kind of people who would use it the most. My ideas? Throw a big party linked to Art-A-Whirl with great Minneapolis music, and have a charity hot dish event with Andrew Zimmern. How Minnesotan!

When eatiply considered advertising on 89.3 The Current, not only did they need to know that their message would reach young, plugged-in foodies–they also needed to hear how their brand would actually sound. While our class agency Thump! set up the strategy, our friends connected us to the incredible Jade Tittle from The Current. With some strategic writing and Jade’s voice, we put together a compelling case.

Grantland

On my list of favorite writers, Bill Simmons, Chuck Klosterman, Malcom Gladwell, and Dave Eggers are near the top of the list. So, when they all came together to create Grantland, I was immediately on board. Under the ESPN umbrella, Grantland is by far the web’s best source for thoughtful and entertaining journalism–not just for sports, but also for pop culture and beyond. This spec work gets to the heart of what makes Grantland so engaging and entertaining for the literate sports fan. Clever, honest, and true.

Liquor Lyle's

Uptown Minneapolis boasts some of the best contemporary restaurants in town. However, while there’s a time and a place for noveau cuisine, there’s also a time and a place for a boilermaker. Liquor Lyle’s is one of the great symbols of Minneapolis dive bar culture. To give their great tradition its due, I created several spec ads that celebrate what Lyle’s decidely “is” by calling out what it definitely “isn’t”. Simple, without pretention,  and lovingly sarcastic, they’re perfect for the person who, really, just wants a drink.
